Registered Runners Can Ride Broad Street Line Free With Official Bib; Extra Broad Street Line Service, Bus Detours

May 03, 2017

PHILADELPHIA, PA (May 3, 2017) - SEPTA is helping runners get a head start on this year's Blue Cross Broad Street Run, Sunday, May 7, 2017, with FREE rides before and after the race for registered runners. SEPTA will also run extra service on the Broad Street Line subway to accommodate the event, and is alerting customers to bus detours that will be in place.
Bus Detours

Dozens of bus routes operating on, across and around Broad Street in parts of North Philadelphia, Center City and South Philadelphia will be altered due to road closures that will be in place for the race. Detours are expected to start at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Sunday. The Route 16 will be on detour starting at 4 a.m. SEPTA will resume regular service as soon as possible after the race.

Detours are currently scheduled for the following bus routes: 3, 4, 7, 9, 12, 15, 17, 21, 23, 27, 29, 31, 32, 33, 37, 38, 39, 40, 42, 43, 44, 45, 48, 53, 54, 56, 60, 61, 64, 68, 75, 79, 124, 125, G, J, H, XH and R. Buses will also replace trolleys along the Route 15. For planned detour information for specific routes, customers can visit the System Status section of SEPTA's website at http://www.septa.org/realtime/status/system-status.shtml and select Travel Advisory for the specific route. System Status will also have frequent updates on detours before, during and after the race.

SEPTA customers using buses that operate on or near the race course are urged to plan ahead for these service adjustments by checking detour information online. Riders should also allow for extra time to complete their trips.

Extra Subway Service
SEPTA will run extra subway service on the Broad Street Line before the race, leaving Fern Rock Transportation Center beginning at 4:15 a.m. Customers should check the Broad Street Line Sports Express Schedule at http://www.septa.org/events/sports.html for additional service information.

Special northbound trips will run frequent express and local service from AT&T Station, which is located near the finish line, from 4:45-8:30 a.m. These trains will stop only at Walnut/Locust and City Hall stations en route to Olney Transportation Center, which is a short walk from the starting point of the race.

Participants must display their official race bib with their competitor number to ride for free.

SEPTA will also run extra Broad Street Line service for Sunday's Phillies-Nationals game at Citizens Bank Park. Two Sports Express trips will leave Fern Rock Transportation Center at 1:38 p.m. and 1:48 p.m. First pitch is 2:35 p.m.
