SEPTA Making Spirits Bright

Heather Redfern
SEPTA Public Information Manager

'Twas the holiday season and throughout SEPTA-land,
The employees were busy, giving Santa a hand.

Red barrels they loaded, filled with toys.
To deliver to all the deserving girls and boys.

From districts and depots, to the offices and shops,
SEPTA employees again proved why they are tops.

It's the Authority's Yule Toy Drive, the 34th one.
And the 2014 edition was by far a homerun.

From dolls and games to basketballs and bikes,
SEPTA employees gave hundreds of toys for tykes.

With piles of gifts, SEPTA looked like the North Pole.
Presents for everyone - absolutely no coal.

The "elves" sifted and sorted and placed the goodies in sacks.
They couldn't wait to deliver their overflowing gift packs.

On the festive bus the volunteers then all boarded.
The good boys and girls soon to be rewarded.

Around Philly town the group spread holiday cheer.
SEPTA once again made this the most wonderful time of the year.

Bill Surrick stepped in as Santa and delivered the employees' Yule Toy gifts to the "North Pole Workshop" (aka 1234 Market Street).

Staff from across the Authority contributed piles of toys of all kinds for the 34th annual toy drive.

Employees filled two buses with sacks of their donated toys.

Callowhill operator Deanne Chiverton got in the holiday spirit to drive Santa's "SEPTA sleigh" to the recipient agencies.

Santa's "SEPTA elves" were led by Board Secretary Carol Looby (front right), who has coordinated the Yule Toy Drive for more than 25 years.
