SEPTA's YAC and Fantastic Friends Host Workshop for Children with Special Needs

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority's (SEPTA) Youth Advisory Commission (YAC) and Fantastic Friends teamed up to host an interactive workshop, exposing special needs families to the Authority's transit system. The April event included, simulated trolley rides, trip planning, safety tips and a parent workshop on available transit resources for families with special needs children. Participants, who were paired with buddies from Fantastic Friends and YAC, traveled to SEPTA's headquarters on public transit. The day coincided with Global Services Day, Earth Day and Autism Awareness Month.

SEPTA's Youth Advisory Commission (YAC) is comprised of young riders aged 14-22 from Philadelphia's five-county region who advocate student needs to SEPTA leadership. The YAC assists SEPTA in creating promotions, provides outreach to the region's youth, and educates peers about services and special events.

Fantastic Friends is a nationally recognized organization with a global mission to create meaningful friendships among special needs and neuro-typical communities through fun, monthly social events.
