Wayne Car Shop Expansion

The existing Wayne Car Shop will be expanded to increase SEPTA's capacity to maintain our existing and proposed fleet of EMU passenger rail cars. The shop building will be expanded to accommodate an additional three tracks of up to seven rail cars at a time. Additional maintenance equipment will be added to include a new "blowdown" facility to maintain vehicle wheel sets without lifting the car bodies from the wheels. Construction will be phased over several years, with a total construction budget currently estimated at $140 million.
