About the Dashboard
We created the Seat Availability Dashboard to provide you with additional information to help plan your travel on SEPTA. It is a tool that will change over time to include new routes, be available on more platforms, improve our estimates, and reflect the most current standards for social distancing.
New seat availability estimates will be published weekly.
These estimates are not a live report of current conditions and your experience may differ from SEPTA's estimates. Estimated seat availability is based on recent observed conditions from the previous two weeks. We process it and fill in some gaps where data is unavailable.
The Dashboard currently includes most of SEPTA bus routes. Other routes and modes, such as the Norristown High Speed Line, Market-Frankford Line, Broad Street Line, and Regional Rail, will be added soon. Additional bus routes and SEPTA trolley routes will be added after that.
How to Use the Seat Availability Dashboard
The Seat Availability Dashboard shows the expected number of seats available at each stop on a trip. These fall into three categories that reflect how easily you might find a seat:
- Many Seats Available: Expect that you can easily find a seat
- Few Seats Available: Expect that you may have to search for a seat
- Standing Room Only: Expect that all seats are taken
These categories reflect SEPTA's normal service standards. For example, a regular-sized bus with less than half its seats available would be categorized as "Few Seats Available". Click here for more information about SEPTA's current vehicle capacity standards.
When no data or estimates are available, you will see grey markers indicating "No Estimate". The number of no estimates will go down over time as we add new routes to the Dashboard.
On a Mobile Device
On a mobile device, use the drop-downs at the top of the dashboard to select the day of week you are planning on traveling, as well as the route, direction, and stop name where you plan to begin your trip. Make a selection from all four of these dropdowns to see results. If you do not see any results, try choosing another direction or stop name, since these can differ for each route.
The times on the left are the scheduled departure times at the stop you selected on that route.
On a Computer
On a computer, use the drop-downs at the top of the dashboard to select the day of week you are planning on traveling, the route, and the direction. Make a selection from all three of these dropdowns to see results. If you do not see any results, try choosing another direction, since these can differ for each route.
The times on the left are the trip times. The circles follow stop order for each trip from left to right. Hover over each circle to see the stop name, the scheduled departure time at the stop, and the estimated seat availability at that stop.
Where Else to Find this Information
