SEPTA Removes COVID Vehicle Capacity Restrictions

Effective June 1, 2021

As COVID-19 cases across the region drop, more people get vaccinated, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the City of Philadelphia ease indoor capacity related restrictions, effective Tuesday, June 1, 2021 the pandemic related limits on the number of customers allowed on all SEPTA vehicles will be removed. The current vehicle capacity limits will remain in place through May 31, 2021

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) mandate and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) requirements concerning wearing a mask/face covering on SEPTA vehicles and in stations remain in effect.

SEPTA recently launched a new tool that offers customers Seat Availability information for buses. This trip planning resource also provides a snapshot of the number of seats and riders on a given vehicle. In the coming months this feature will be expanded to cover all modes of service including the Market Frankford, Broad Street and Norristown Lines, Regional Rail and Trolleys.
