SEPTA's Center City Concourse Program will make significant upgrades to the underground pedestrian tunnel network that connects major transit stations beneath Center City. This 500,000+ square foot space spans from JFK Boulevard to Spruce Street and from 8th Street to 18th Street. The concourse provides access to many businesses, offices, historical points of interest, two PATCO stations for connecting service to South Jersey, and access to SEPTA Regional Rail, Market Frankford, Trolleys, and Broad Street Lines.
The Center City Concourse Program will be implemented in phases commencing in 2015 and concluding in 2020. Preliminary phases have included the replacement of emergency call boxes and upgrades to stairs and lighting fixtures. During the current and future phases, contractors will make structural repairs, remediate leaks, replace lighting fixtures, improve security, and architectural enhancements. The elevator at 8th and Market Sts. will be upgraded and the escalators at 8th Street and 15th Street Stations will be replaced.
